One of the greatest mistakes that we do as individuals is keeping clutter everywhere around the house. This is not very good housekeeping. If you eliminate clutter from your house you will save a lot of time and energy in cleaning your house. Also, a house full of clutter is not only an eyesore, but you can easily become discouraged to even attempt to clean it. Here are a few tips that you can use in order to eliminate clutter from your home. The first rule is to look at things that are broken and need fixing. If you can fix it then you need to do it. If the cost of fixing it is not worthy you need to let it go. A good rule to use is this; if you have not seen the need to repair that item for over a year you probably do not need to keep it.
Another way to improve on your housekeeping by removing mess is to check on things that are really an eyesore but we still think that they have their use. This may be a lampshade that looks ugly in your house than it did in the store. It may even be a can opener that is not even working properly. You need to become decisive and get rid of these things. There is also no need to keep things around the house for sentimental reasons. For instance, if during your wedding you received this hideous lamp from a well meaning guest, you need to decide to get rid of it even if you feel that you are letting people down.
Other types of clutter that disrupt our housecleaning are things that we rarely use. Do not store things just because you think that you might need them. These rarely used items take up the space that may be used for things we use regularly. This is especially true in case of new and novelty items. We give ourselves the impression that we require them but ultimately they end up in cardboard boxes in the garage. For things that you might use like once a year you can borrow them from your neighbours. Or you can rent them instead of having too many items in the house.
Finally to improve on your housekeeping you may reduce clutter by getting rid of things that you even forgot that you had. How many times have you rummaged through your drawer and come across something that you bought ages ago and you forgot about it? The fact that you have lived that long without noticing the item means that you probably do not need it in the first place. You need to decide to get rid of it.
Other items that may clutter the home include newspapers and magazines. Also pieces of paper like receipts can make your home look cluttered. For newspapers you can sell them to waste paper recyclers. Other things that may be recycled include bottles and plastic bags.
